"See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic priciples of this world rather than on Christ." - Colossians 2:8

Who is the truth?
Who is the truth? Don't you mean, what is the truth?
Eventually Webster gets around to what most of us understand to be the definition of truth. Definition 3a calls truth, "the property (as of a statement) of being in accord with fact or reality."
In John 14:6, Jeus says, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
Wow! Many people find that to be the most offensive statement in the Bible. It seems so narrow-minded. Well, it is narrow-minded, but that does not mean it is not true. Accepting new facts as true is the essential property of learning. Without a willingness to accept new facts and assimilate them into our understanding of how things work, learning cannot occur.
So, is what Jesus says true? Our Savior's statement can only be understood by faith. Yes, of course, His statement is true. One cannot selectively disregard or explain away the claims of the Messiah and yet still accept Him as Messiah. If you can selectively pick and choose what you accept as Biblical truth, you may as well grab a block of wood and fashion your own idol. For by carving away God's word, you will be fashioning a God to your own liking. The Holy Bible contains the inspired word of God. God will always work consistently with what He has communicated to us in His word. We may have difficulty accepting or understanding, but we can rest in the knowledge that his word is always true!
Knowledge of the truth alone will accomplish little. It's an essential, non-negotiable start. But, as Jesus said in John 5:39-40: "You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life." Perhaps you will be able to assimilate some facts from the Bible into your understanding of truth, but to know Jesus is to move from acceptance of facts to an embrace of Jesus as Savior - a love for Him that exceeds all else.
This site will help you study the Scriptures. Hopefully, it will add to your understanding of them. But only the Holy Spirit can work to move you from knowledge to saving faith. I pray that this will be true of all who read this site and true of many of your neighbors as well. May God bless you and this work.
